Tomfoolery from the Saudis

The people who have brought the world militant Islamism are hosting a conference on how to combat terrorism:

"Saudi Arabia is putting great effort to fight terrorism and this meeting is great testimony of that. The ministry is willing to collaborate with all parties, local or foreign, that is fighting terrorism," said Saleh al-el Sheikh, Saudi Arabia's Minister for Islam and Hajj matters.

What a farce. After watching the Saudis closely for a few years -- and up-close the way in which they operate in Washington -- I can almost guarantee you that this conference is nothing but window dressing and PR.

If Mr. al-el Sheikh wants to fight terrorism, he should start in his own backyard. He might want to read this report.

The world probabaly hasn't seen (and may never again see) a nation that engages in such blatantly dishonest doublespeak. It's a total disgrace.

UPDATE: Damian Penny notes the Saudis are holding municipal elections. If these elections are free and for real, some credit is due.
