Who will go to the Senate?

Today's National Post reports that Ernie Eves, the former Ontario Premier, is being considered for the Senate by Paul Martin. The Upper Chamber currently has a slew of vacancies, and given the immense Liberal majority already there, Martin is looking to appoint a Tory. Other names that have been mentioned recently as possible appointees include Maureen McTeer and Joe Clark.

I hope he passes on all three. Ernie and Joe (and even Maureen, for that matter) epitomize the legacy of failure in Conservative politics of the last three decades. They aren't the kind of standard-bearers that party needs in the Senate, or anywhere in political life for that matter.
