Caucus reactions

James Moore, the BC Conservative MP, sent this out yesterday in his regular MP update. He doesn't hide his feelings. Also see the comments of an obviously shell-shocked Monte Solberg.

MP Update -- May 17, 2005

Today has been truly one of the more bizarre days of my political career.

About Belinda Stronach crossing the floor to the Liberals, I'm deeply disappointed, and feel betrayed by someone I considered a good friend.

After being lied to and stabbed in the back by Joe Peschisolido (Alliance turned Liberal MP), Keith Martin (Alliance turned Liberal MP) and Scott Brison (Conservative turned Liberal MP) before they crossed the floor tothe Liberals, I learned early in my political experience not to trust overly-ambitious politicians. Belinda today confirmed my thesis.

There really are great people in public life. People who believe in values, policies, loyalty to their constituents and principles, and then there are those who are about earning titles and achieving office for its own empty sake. Belinda is in this latter group.

She voted non-confidence in the Liberals and Paul Martin last week, and now, today, she joins them and says she's against voting non-confidence? It is just ridiculous. I guess even billionaires have their price

Just YESTERDAY (yes 24 hours ago) she was telling me about how excited she was about the candidates we've nominated and how happy she was that certain cabinet ministers were going to lose. And now she's in that very same cabinet calling them colleagues? It really is little wonder Canadians don't trust politicians

Days like this sure do test one's resolve to stay involved in politics. Betrayal does sting.
