Family first for Cathy Gauthier

You have to admire Cathy Gauthier. She is the lead on Jennifer Jones' curling team, which won this year's Scott Tournament of Hearts. Gauthier has announced she is quitting curling next year to be with her children. That means giving up a return trip to the Scott, a chance at the Olympics and funding from SportCanada:

Last season, Gauthier and Jones scheduled their season around the weekends that Ron [her husband, from whom she is separated] had custody but that would not be possible next year. She was worried about losing her share of the custody in the future if she continued that lifestyle. Though no one had made that threat, Gauthier said.

"My parents offered to move to Winnipeg from Vancouver for the winter to help me out," said Gauthier, who has completely recovered from a broken eardrum that delayed her return home from Newfoundland. "But that would have meant they'd (kids) been spending more time with them than with me. That wouldn't be fair to them and it wouldn't be fair to me. As much as I love curling, my children will always come first."

Talk about having the right priorities.
