Have the Tories crossed the Rubicon?

I had a feeling Paul Martin's direct TV appeal would work well in convincing voters, especially in Ontario, that an election now is premarture. The latest polling shows he may have succeeded. But have the Tories gone too far with their sabre-rattling to turn back?

I think so. Like George Bush in the leadup to the liberation of Iraq, a certain point has been crossed where it is too late to reverse course. So they now have to push ahead with trying to defeat the government, no matter what.

Problem is, do they have the votes? With NDP budget deal and Chuck Cadman continually dithering the way he is, it doesn't seem clear that the opposition can win a non-confidence vote. And will Canadians punish them for going "early"?

Should be yet another interesting week in Ottawa.
